Warwickshire Walkies!

Finally! The days are longer, the rain is less frequent and the mud is below knee height (or tail-height for some). This calls for a celebration: field walks and pub gardens! But where to choose?

The Henderson Hound team would love to share a couple of our favourite Warwickshire wanders for you and your woofer.

Oakley Woods, an old favourite, comes into its own at this time of year. If you need a shady walk when the sun is out or just love soaking up the sound of wind-tossed leaves, this one is for you. The trails can take up to an hour and I would suggest it is impossible (!) to get lost. Our favourite pub near here is a stop on the way home: The Leopard at Bishops Tachbrook. It’s super-friendly with plenty of dog treats on the bar.

Sticking local, it is hard to beat the fields near Old Milverton. Walking from the pretty village church, you can stroll down the hill through waist-high corn (reliving the scene from Gladiator if you wish) toward the river at the bottom. There is a convenient wooden bridge across the the beautiful Saxon Mill pub (dating back to the 12th century) but if you have better willpower than us, you can continue on, skirting the river and following the edge of fields back to where you started.

A step away is another gem: a stroll around the fields of Kineton (basically an excuse to visit the lovely Gilks cafe who have fantastic gluten free treats and love a four-pawed visitor). They even guide you on walks that start on their doorstep. Think green fields, leisurely strolls and a massive breakfast waiting for you at the end.

Finally, perhaps the most impressive: if your pooch is a little bit classy or you love a beautiful view, the Castle at Edgehill is a really special place to start. Tree-shrouded trails criss-cross the edge itself and paths head down towards the beautiful village of Radway. Returning, dog-bowls, pints and excellent snacks await you in the Castle itself. You can see across to the Malvern Hill and overlook the site of one of our most famous Civil War battles.

We are pretty spoilt in Warwickshire for dog-friendly walks and pubs that welcome four-legged friends with open arms. (Ask Claire about Radford Routes to the White Lion - she is keeping those close to her chest). But we would love to know your favourites! Send us a few we could share below or contact us on Insta @hendersonhoundshop.
